FILARMONICA '900
La Filarmonica '900 del Teatro Regio di Torino è una associazione fondata nel 2003 su iniziativa dei professori d'orchestra del Teatro Regio e si compone degli elementi dell'intero corpo d'orchestra del teatro d'opera.
Essa raccoglie l'eredità dell'Orchestra del Teatro Regio la cui storia, lunga più di 260 anni, si intreccia con quella di famosi artisti a partire da Arturo Toscanini, Giacomo Puccini, Richard Strauss, Maria Callas sino a Renata Tebaldi, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Placido Domingo e Luciano Pavarotti.
La Filarmonica '900, con un aspetto di originalità che la distingue, si propone di esplorare l'estrema varietà della musica del novecento inserendo nel proprio repertorio, accanto ai capolavori di sempre, i grandi temi della musica sinfonica del XX Secolo con un'attenzione particolare per i punti d'incontro tra l'idea di musica "colta" e i nuovi linguaggi che ad essa si sono opposti ma anche confrontati ed infine mescolati, come il jazz, la musica per i film, la musica popolare.
Ne deriva un ricco repertorio formato per una parte consistente dalle opere dei grandi autori del novecento quali Mahler, Strauss, Ravel, Respighi, Prokof'ev, Berg, e Shostakovic grazie alla collaborazione con artisti di grandissimo valore quali Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Enrico Dindo, Natalia Gutman, Stefano Bollani, Gianandrea Noseda, Jan Latham-Koenig, Hubert Soudant, Dietfried Bernet, Ute Lemper.
Accanto all’attività concertistica tenuta nella sala grande del Teatro Regio, la Filarmonica ‘900 ha dedicato molte delle proprie energie alla realizzazione di importanti progetti:
Incisioni discografiche
Progetto Rota-Casella riguardante due compositori italiani del '900, per certi versi trascurati ma di altissimo profilo, che ha dato come esito all’incisione di 2 CD pubblicati da Chandos e Brillant. Nel 2011 in occasione del centenario della nascita di Nino Rota è stato pubblicato da Chandos il terzo CD inciso sotto la direzione di G.Noseda.
Progetto Poulenc con l’incisione del concerto per clavicembalo affidato a Stefano Bollani e la prima incisione mondiale del balletto “Les Animaux Modèles” sotto la direzione di Jan Latham-Koenig.
Tournee e partecipazioni a Festival
La Filarmonica '900 è già stata gratificata da quattro partecipazioni consecutive al Festival Internazionale Settembre Musica di Torino ed ha al suo attivo importanti scritture internazionali: nell'estate 2004 al Festival Berlioz in Francia (con Laurent Petitgirard e il pianista Jean Philippe Collard), nell'agosto 2005 al noto Festival di Santander, in Spagna (tre concerti con Renée Fleming, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Jan Latham-Koenig), nel 2006 al Rumanian Atheneum di Bucarest-Romania, nel maggio 2008 al festival di Stresa (esecuzione della colonna sonora di Tempi moderni di Chaplin), nel luglio 2008 al Festival di Salò (3°Sinfonia di Mahler con H. Schaefer),nell'agosto 2008 e 2009 al Festival di Muerten-Svizzera .
All’insegna di un nuovo eclettismo sono nate numerose collaborazioni con artisti di diversa estrazione musicale: dal Jazz grazie alla presenza di Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stefano Bollani, Richard Galliano, New York Voices per arrivare al Pop accanto ad Antony and the Johnsons.
Un posto particolare nell'attività della Filarmonica '900 è rappresentato dalla musica per il cinema.
Di particolare fascino sono state le visioni di Luci della città e Tempi moderni di Charlie Chaplin con l’esecuzione dal vivo della colonna sonora composta dallo stesso Chaplin.
Grazie alla collaborazione del Museo del Cinema è stato possibile offrire al pubblico la proiezione di Cabiria di Pastrone sempre con l’esecuzione dal vivo della colonna sonora.
Il progetto Hitchcock con Antonio Ballista: un video-concerto che ha proposto gli spartiti originali voluti dal regista con le sequenze dei suoi film .
La presenza di Nicola Piovani sul podio ha fatto rivivere l’emozione di musica da Oscar.
In questi anni si è stretto un particolare sodalizio con il compositore torinese Ezio Bosso candidato all’Oscar con la musica di Io non ho paura di G. Salvatores.
Sono state incise le colonne sonore dei film di N. Porporati Il dolce e l’amaro e Le ali.
Con Ezio Bosso la Filarmonica’900 ha partecipato nel Luglio 2010 al Festival Suoni delle Dolomiti (con un concerto nel Bosco dei Violini) e al Festival della Scienza di Genova, Ottobre 2010, con la Prima Esecuzione Italiana dell’opera multimediale di Philip Glass “Icarus at the edge of time” eseguita al Teatro Carlo Felice.
In questi anni la Filarmonica’900 ha collaborato con molti grandi compositori di livello internazionale, eseguendo prime assolute di: Francesco Antonioni, Pascal Dusapin, Toshio Hosokawa, Fabio Nieder, Michael Daugherty, Carlo Boccadoro, James Hartway.

The Filarmonica ‘900 of Turin’s Teatro Regio was founded in 2003 on the initiative of the Teatro Regio’s orchestra members, and includes musicians from the entire opera theatre orchestra.
It inherits its legacy from the Teatro Regio orchestra, the history of which dates back more than 260 years, and is interwoven with that of famous artists, starting from Arturo Toscanini, Giacomo Puccini, Richard Strauss, and Maria Callas and including Renata Tebaldi, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.
The Filarmonica '900 is distinguished by its exploration of the extreme varieties of twentieth century music, including in its repertoire, along with timeless masterpieces, the grand themes of symphonic music of the 1900s. It particularly pays attention to the meeting point between “cultured” music and the new languages that are sometimes opposed to it, sometimes compared to it, and finally mixed with it, such as jazz, film and popular music.
From this, a rich repertoire is derived, partly inclusive of the works of the grand composers of the 1900s, such as Mahler, Strauss, Ravel, Respighi, Prokof’ev, Berg and Shostakovic, thanks to the collaboration of great artists, such as Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Enrico Dindo, Natalia Gutman, Stefano Bollani, Gianandrea Noseda, Jan Latham-Koenig, Hubert Soudant, Dietfried Bernet, Ute Lemper. In addition to the concerts held in the Teatro Regio’s grand hall, the Filarmonica '900 has dedicated its considerable energy to the following important projects.
Music recordings
The Rota-Casella project focused on two Italian composers of the 1900s, who are very high profile, although in some ways have been disregarded. 2 CDs were recorded and released by Chandos and Brilliant. In 2011, for the centenary of Nino Rota’s birth, Chandos has released the third CD, recorded under the direction of G. Noseda.
The Poulenc Project recorded the concerto for harpsichord, performed by Stefano Bollani, and the first recording in the world of the ballet “Les Animaux Modèles”, under the direction of Jan Latham-Keonig.
Festival tours and performances
The Filarmonica ‘900 has already been thrilled to participate four consecutive times in Festival Internazionale Settembre Musica-MITO and in other important international performances: in summer 2004, at the Festival Berlioz in France (with Laurent Petitgirad and pianist Jean Philippe Collard), in August 2005, at the noted Santander Festival in Spain (three concerts with Renée Fleming, Roberto Scandiuzzi and Jan Latham-Koenig), in 2006 at the Rumanian Atheneum in Bucharest-Romania, in May 2008 at the Stresa Festival (execution of the soundtrack of Chaplin’s Modern Times), in July 2008, at the Salò Festival (Mahler’s 3rd symphony with H. Schaefer) and in August 2008 and 2009 at the Murten-Switzerland Festival.
As symbols of a new eclecticism, numerous collaborations with artists from diverse musical backgrounds have been born: from Jazz, thanks to Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stefano Bollani, Richard Galliano and New York Voices, to Pop, alongside Antony and the Johnsons.
A special place must be reserved in the activities of the Filarmonica '900 for the music of the cinema.
The screenings of Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights and Modern Times are particular highlights, with the live performance of the soundtracks that Chaplin composed himself.
Thanks to the collaboration of Turin’s Cinema Museum, it has been possible to offer the public a screening of Pastrone’s Cabiria with the live performance of the soundtrack. The Hitchcock project: a video-concert of the original sheet music desired by the director with the sequence of his films. Nicola Piovani’s presence on the conductor’s podium revived the emotions of the Oscar-winner’s music.
In addition to live performances, there is a close association with Turinese composer Ezio Bosso, Oscar nominee for the music of G. Salvatores’ I’m not scared. The Filarmonica ‘900 also recorded the soundtracks of N. Porporati’s Il dolce e l’amaro and Le ali.
With Ezio Bosso the Filarmonica’900 play in July 2010 at Festival delle Dolomiti-Trento, and in October 2010 at the Festival della Scienza in Genova, the Italian Premiere of Philip Glass “Icarus at the edge of time” at the Teatro Carlo Felice.
